Kiting a paragliding wing is the first big challenge of learning to fly powered paragliders. This along with the continual building of aviation knowledge related to weather, emergencies, flying conditions, etc will be the basics of your first few lessons and your carrier as a ultralight pilot.
The term "kiting" refers to the act of controlling the paragliding wind on the ground using only the risers. by applying different amounts of control imput on the left, right, front and rear risers, a wing can be launched, steared around, and finally landed under absolute control. This is an important skill because doing improperly will result in exhaustion, frustration, and sometimes broken equipment. A normal launch for powered paragliding in optimum flying conditions for beginners 5-10mph is a reverse launch. This type of launch is done with risers crossed and you facing your wing. This is the configuration that most of your kiteing will be done...risers crossed with you facing your wing.
